Slokam-28 : (Fear of poison, Untimely death)


"Sudham apy asvadya pratibhaya-jaraa-mrtyu-harinim

Vipadyante visve Vidhi-Satamakhadya divishadah;

Karalam yat ksvelam kabalitavatah kala-kalana

Na Sambhos tan-mulam tava janani tadanka-mahima."

Translation :


Sudham apy        =  even ambrosia 

asvadya                 =  having eaten 

pratibhaya            =  the fearful

jaraa-mrtyu           = old age (and) death 

harinim                   =  that which removes 

Vipadyante             =  they die

visve                           =   all      

Satamakhadya       =  Satamkha (Indra) and others 

divishadah             =   inhabitants of heaven 

Karalam                  = dreadful 

yat                               =  because 

ksvelam                    =  poison

kabalitavatah         =   one who has swallowed a mouthful 

kala-kalana            =  subject to time (does not succumb to death) 

Na                               =  not 

Sambho                     =   for Sambhu (Siva)  

tan-mulam               =   because of it 

tava janani                =  your Oh Mother! (Sakti) 

tadanka-mahima.  =  the greatness of the ear ring (the Sri Cakra)

Slokam Meaning :

Having eaten even ambrosia, which removes the fearful old age (and) death, Vidhi, Satamakha and all other inhabitants of heaven die. (But if) Sambhu, who has swallowed a mouthful of the dreadful poison is not subject to time because of it, (it is) because of the greatness of your ear ring Oh Mother!

Siva is freed from death by Sakti.  

Slokam 28 : The devotee is freed from the cycle of birth and death by worship of Siva.

Conclusion :

"Oh, mother mine, Gods like Indra and brahma, Who have drunk deep the nectar divine, Which removes the cruel aging and death, Do die and disappear."

"But Shambu thy consort, Who swallowed poison that is potent, Does never die, Because of the greatness , Of thine ( Sakti ) Dear studs."
